Polytron has unveiled a new look at its ‘Switchable Glass’ technology – a conductive OLED screen that uses liquid crystal molecules to display text and images. The screen uses electric current to align these molecules into images onto the screen. All of this produces a screen which is completely transparent, but is still able to show clear, colour pictures.

As reported by Mobile Geeks, Polytron said that a completed Transparent Smartphone would have touchscreens on both sides(front and back), and hidden microphones and speakers, and in future maybe even transparent batteries. But for now there are still some components that are not transparent, like its circuitry and the SD card and are to be covered for user experiences.
For now the device is purely a prototype, though Polytron think it will make it into a consumer device as soon as the screen is up to scratch. They’re also said to be working on a tablet design.
“It will happen near the end of 2013,” said general manager Sam Yu. “Trust me.”
